The project provides financial and technical support for on-farm water quality management practices in Yolo and Solano Counties. A Water Quality Technical Committee consisting of farmers, the County Agricultural Commissioner, Yolo County Farm Bureau, and technical specialists was established to provide direction and coordination for implementation, monitoring and education efforts. Water quality management practices available for financial support include sediment traps, grassed waterways, vegetated ditches, and cover crops. Samples of runoff from irrigation events and winter rain storms were collected and analyzed for total suspended solids and pesticides to assess practice effectiveness. Field measurements were made for nutrients, turbidity, pH, dissolved oxygen, and conductivity. Program outreach included presentations at grower meetings, on-farm field meetings, and information displays at county fairs and other public events.
